Mission statement: Professional Biography: Relocating to Tallahassee, I began working full time as a carpenter for the next four years with my primary focus being new home construction for several General Contractors, enabling me to rise to the position of lead carpenter and job foreman. Our company was founded on the principals taught to me by a couple of old Tallahassee carpenters, one who has since pasted away, who were my mentors when I started "pounding nails" locally. My experience as a form carpenter on high rise condominium construction is South Florida didn't prepare me for the demands of the stern craftsmen who employed me in Tallahassee. My first true introduction to quality building came at the hand of these teachers who, not so patiently, expected a lot more than the mediocre craftsmanship I'd gotten away with in the Naples, Florida Condo market. Slowly, under their unceasing demand for accuracy and honesty in the work product, I began to understand the importance of superior workmanship and it's relationship to the reliability and durability of construction. Years later when I built my first personal home, a small farm cottage in Lloyd, Florida, I began to apply these lessons in my custom built homes. We began our construction company with the building of several homes in Melody Hills, Meridian Hills, as well as Linene Woods and odd rural jobs in the Jefferson and East Leon County area. We built many homes with below grade basements, and our dedication to doing things the right way, (like using French drains and waterproofing with 2 coats of stucco plus bitumen) meant that our basements didn't leak...ever. We used more studs in the framing of our houses, sized the beams bigger, used thicker plywood, insisted on tighter nailing patterns and made sure that things were plumb and square. We hired better and more knowledgeable tradesmen in the plumbing, electrical, heating, and cooling trades. We give special attention to our trim work and make sure that it looks straight, true, plumb, and out joinery is impeccable to avoid extra caulking by the painter. Speaking of the painter, we insist that he sand between every coat to ensure a smooth and blemish free finish will result. Following these principals, our company grew gradually through the 1980's to annual gross revenues of over two million dollars and an employee base of nearly twenty construction employees. The price and size of our home building projects occupied a niche market of upscale fine homes costing $250,000 and up with a few homes nearing the million dollar mark. These homes were relatively complex and detail oriented. I completed the required course work required to sit for the Florida State Certified General Contractors exam, the highest designation awarded by the State. I passed the test on the first try and have held the General Contractors license since that time. I, also , received my Florida Real Estate License during this time , first as a sales man and then as a broker. In the late 80's Price Vincent, Contractor, Inc. developed it's first small subdivision, Penny Lane, and constructed some of the homes in that subdivision. Since that time the company has developed a small bay-front subdivision in Gulf County, a medical office subdivision in Tallahassee, an entry level subdivision in Leon County (where the company built over 20 small homes fro 1st time home buyers), and an equestrian community, canopy trails which included a 6000 sq/ft barn. We recently completed the Megan's Lane and Logan's Run Communities and are currently building three new communities Rivendell, Lakeshore Lane and Canopy Trails, phase II. During the 1990's we constructed over 50 single family homes, additions, remodeling projects, and office buildings. |
